Lower East Side

If you want to live in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, it is important that you know the pros and cons of renting Lower East Side apartments and other facts about the neighborhood. Manhattan’s Lower East Side is located in the southeastern part of NYC. Eldridge Street, Allen Street, Essex Street, E. Houston and Canal Street border it roughly. One benefit of living in Lower East Side apartment rentals is the fact that the Lower East Side is a densely populated immigrant settlement. Although gentrification has been taking place, there is still a lot of diversity in the Lower East Side. If you want to interact with different cultures, this is the place to be.

Another advantage of getting rent apartment in Lower East Side is that rent is cheaper than in other NYC neighborhoods. Like most Manhattan apartments, the housing in the Lower East Side is mostly pre-war buildings and tenements. However, most of these buildings have modern amenities. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in modern buildings such as condominium rentals where older buildings used to stand. Most of the housing is no fee rentals.

The Lower East Side is known as the center of NYC artist scene. There are several schools in the Lower East Side such as New Design and Corlears Junior High School, there are 24-Hour ATMs in several places such as the Happiness Deli and Chase Manhattan, and there are two post offices, several pharmacies and supermarkets. The neighborhood has the seventh Police Precinct, three parks, the East River Park, the Seward Park and the Sara Roosevelt Park, and a vibrant nightlife in bars, clubs, and lounges, mostly around Clinton, Essex, Rivington, and Stanton Streets. When you get NYC apartment rentals in the Lower East Side, you will not have a big security issue. There are few tourists to the area and the fact that most of the residents are young and creative makes this a nice place to live.

One disadvantage of living in the Lower East Side is that neighborhood is slightly claustrophobic and densely populated. With Lower East Side real estate, you will have quick access to the Downtown neighborhoods of Soho, East Village, Chinatown, and Nolita, but the Lower East Side is out of the way. There are limited transportation options. The main option in the Lower East Side is the subway system – the only subway that makes a stop in the neighborhood is the F/V train. The neighborhood is served by the M9, M15, M103, AND M21 public buses. Parking, especially at night, is difficult to come by. The best option is getting a bike.

Like is the case with most NYC apartments, apartment for sale in Lower East Side are very expensive. However, this is the best time to buy because the market is down and forecasts are that things will start picking up. You should consider coop sales NYC if you are interested in buying property.
